Questioner:

If a worshipper finishes reciting al-Fātia and another chapter in the silent prayers before the imām bows, should he remain silent?

Shaykh Muammad ibn Sāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn:

The one following the imām should not be silent if he has completed the recitation of al-Fātia and another chapter before the imām falls into the bowing position. He should continue reciting (more chapters) up until the imām bows, even if he has finished reciting al-Fātia in the two units after the first sitting (tashāhhud). He should recite another chapter until the imām bows because there are no silence periods in the prayer except when the follower is listening to the recitation of his imām (in an audible prayer).
