A serious scholarly warning from Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān on the ruling of persistently neglecting the Fajr prayer and its impact on faith and marriage in Islam.
Questioner: Many times, I try to awaken my wife for the Fajr prayer; however, she does not get up. Instead, she consistently performs the prayer after sunrise. What is incumbent upon me to do in this situation?
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Fawzān (b. 1354 AH / 1935 CE): Her prayer is not accepted. If she does not get up to pray the Fajr prayer, you should divorce her. She is not a Muslim. Those who miss the Fajr prayer are not Muslims. If she repents, then Allah ﷻ will accept her repentance, so remain with her. Otherwise, look for someone else.
