The Science of ḥadīth is considered one of the most important and detailed sciences in the field of Islamic knowledge. The rules and precise principles that were laid down by experts of ḥadīth are the instruments that enables us today – with the permission of Allah ﷻ, to ascertain authentic from forged narrations attributed to the Prophet ﷺ. With the knowledge of these principles and rules, millions of Prophetic narrations have been preserved and complied in books such as Ṣaḥiḥ al-Būkhārī and Muslim.

From those scholars who taught these principles in the grading of aḥadīth was ʿUmar b. Muḥammad b. Futuḥ al-Bayqūnī. A well-known Shafite scholar of Syria. The Ode of Bayqūnīyyah is a considered a primer of in the field of the science of ḥadīth that every student of knowledge memorises and studies. The ode consists of 34 couplets covering 34 types of ḥadīth gradings, making it very easy to memories.

In this series, Uways aṭ-Ṭawīl utilizes the explanations of Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajr, ʿAbdullah al-Būkhārī, Muḥammad Bāzmūl and others.
