Ramaḍān and Fasting

My Wife is Pregnant and Vomits a Lot During Ramadan – Shaykh Ubayd al-Jabiri

If a pregnant woman suffers severe vomiting during Ramadan, Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī advises that she should not fast. After childbirth, she should make up the missed days when she is able.

Questioner:

My wife is pregnant and vomits a lot [during the day time in Ramaḍān]. What should she do?

Shaykh ʿUbayd al-Jābirī:

If the situation is like the way you have described, then I advice her not to fast. And after she has given birth she should make up for the missing days whenever she has the ability.
