Questioner:

We know that the scholars differ with respect to the issue of taking and making pictures, but is a person who is well-grounded in religious knowledge permitted to appear on video to refute Christians, invite the public to Islām, refute the deceptive arguments of Dā`ish and exonerate Islām from any connection their doings?

Shaykh Muḥammad Bāzmūl:

Those who are of the second opinion – which is the opinion that photography and videos are permitted if they do not contain veneration tantamount to shirk – would say that it is permitted. Those of the first opinion say that if there is an essential need for someone who is well suited and capable to appear on video in order to promulgate the religion, rebut deceptive arguments or discredit the sayings of the deceitful, the verdict is that it is permitted.
