Shaykh Abdul-Aziz Ibn Bāz:

We have all heard this blessed seminar that was undertaken by some virtuous people in relation to business in Islam. They did well and provided useful information – may Allah multiply their reward and grant them goodness, and may He increase our knowledge, guidance, and success, and benefit us all with what we have learned and heard.

As you have heard, business is of great importance and has been recommended in Islam. Traders who adhere to what Allāh has enjoined and avoid what He has prohibited are praised. Business is one of the most important activities of Muslims, one of the most important ways of earning a living. It is the work of the Muhājirīn. When the Muslims migrated from Mecca – and elsewhere, to Medina at the time of the Prophet they engaged in trade whilst the Ansār engaged  in agriculture, then the Prophet united the Muhājirīn and the Ansār. the Ansār said, We will provide you with provisions and share the fruit with you.”

Thus, the Ansār worked and helped the Muhājirīn with the fruit, to the extent that Sa’d bin al-Rabī’ al-Ansārī offered to give half of his wealth and one of his wives to ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān bin ‘Awf when they became brothers in Islam. Sa’d said to him, “ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān, I will give you half of my wealth and one of my wives – he had two wives, ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān replied, “May Allah bless you, your family and your wealth. Just show me where the market is.” So he went and bought some butter and cheese, and continued to trade until Allah made him wealthy and married and much goodness came his way. He continued to profit from trade and from spoils until he became one of the wealthiest of people.
