Sleeping Facing the Qiblah

Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz explains that sleeping facing the qiblah is not obligatory, nor strictly a Sunnah. He clarifies that a person may choose to sleep in any direction, as the matter is broad and lenient in Islām.

Questioner:

With regards to directing the bed towards the qiblah, is it obligatory or is it Sunnah?

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Azīz bin ʿAbdullah bin Bāz:

It is not obligatory. If he wills, he may sleep in direction of the qiblah, and if he wills, he may sleep in another direction. All praise is due to Allah ﷻ, this matter is spacious (lenient).
