This is a lecture delivered by Abu Ḥakīm Bilāl on the life and legacy of Ibn Taymiyyah.
He was a Shaykh, an Imām, a leading scholar (ʿAllāmah), a master of ḥadīth (Ḥāfiẓ), a skilled critic (Nāqiḍ), a jurist (Faqīh), a Mujtahid, a Qur’anic exegete (Mufassir), and a scholar of exceptional proficiency. He was a guiding light for ascetics, an outstanding phenomenon of his era, and a towering figure of knowledge.
He was Taqī al-Dīn Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn al-Fatī Shihāb al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Ḥalīm, widely known as Ibn Taymiyyah.
He was among the vast oceans of knowledge – one of the rare intellectuals, devoted worshippers, unique individuals, courageous defenders of truth, and generous nobles. Both those who agreed with him and those who differed with him praised him. He became renowned for his writings, which may number close to three hundred volumes.
Although he held some opinions that were unique to him and for which he was criticized, these are overwhelmed by the immense breadth of his knowledge and service to Islam. We hope that Allah, the Most High, will pardon him and be pleased with him.
As has been said: “I have not seen anyone like him.” Yet, the speech of every person in this Ummah may be accepted or rejected. He, too, was one of this Ummah – an extraordinary scholar, but still human – read more abut him here
