Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān advises Muslims to fear Allah ﷻ, make abundant duʿāʾ for steadfastness, and protect themselves from trials by seeking authentic knowledge from trustworthy scholars. He explains that sound knowledge is the main safeguard against falling into fitnah unknowingly.
What do you advise us with in this period which trials and tribulations, the people of innovation and the death of the scholars have spread and increased?
I first advise you to fear Allāh ﷻ and to increase in supplicating to Allah ﷻ that He keeps us and you firm upon the religion, and that He safeguards us and you from evil trials and tribulations. I then advise you to seek knowledge from the people of knowledge and to be diligent in doing so. Since nothing protects from trials and tribulations except authentic knowledge – by the permission of Allāh ﷻ.
If you do not possess authentic knowledge then maybe you would unknowingly fall into trials and tribulations whilst unaware that it is fitan. Therefore, upon you is to seek knowledge from the people of knowledge and not to be lackadaisical in seeking knowledge as much as your able.
