Questioner:

“Is it permissible to purchase a clothing (brand) whose name originates from a (Greek) ‘God’?

The name written in brackets is Nike, this is the name of this ‘God’.”

Shaykh Aḥmed al-Najmi:

“What…?”

Questioner:

“Nike… It is English O’ Shaykh.”

Shaykh Aḥmed al-Najmi:

“I seek refuge in Allāh.”

Questioner:

“However, this ‘God’ is not worshipped anymore. May Allāh reward you.”

Shaykh Aḥmed al-Najmi:

“Even if it is not worshipped, why did they brand this with a name of a ‘God’?”

Questioner:

“This is how it is pronounced O’ Shaykh, it is not Arabic.”

Shaykh Aḥmed al-Najmi:

“It is obligatory upon them to reject something like this. It is obligatory upon them to speak out and warn against those who import this brand (into the Muslim lands). This is something that should be abandoned by the Muslims.”
