Should I Reply to Salam While Reading the Quran

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan explains that when someone greets you while you are reciting the Qur’an, you should finish the verse first and then reply. Greeting during recitation is not prescribed as it interrupts and disturbs the recitation.

Questioner:

If I’m reading the Qurʿān and then a person approaches and greets me, do I reply to his greeting or finish the verse (first)?

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān:

Finish the verse and then reply to his greeting. It has not been prescribed to greet the one who is reading the Qurʿān as this will disturb him and cut his recitation. Therefore, greet him when he has finished reading.
