Innovation and Innovators

Is Naming Innovators Permissible?

Shaykh Ahmad al-Najmi states that it is permissible to mention an innovator by name when warning others, especially if he is causing fitnah or leading people astray. Naming him helps protect the community from being misled.

Questioner:

Is it permissible to mention the innovator by name and warn against him?

Shaykh Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyá al-Najmī

Yes, it is permissible. If people are put to trial by this individual and he is an Imām of misguidance, then there is no harm for you to say [his name].
