Prayer
No Forgiveness for One Who Abandons Prayer
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān explains that if a person dies abandoning the prayer intentionally, good deeds performed on their behalf, including charity and fasting, will not benefit them. Forgiveness should not be sought for such a person if they died in that state.
Questioner:
Shaykh, the father of my daughters passed away, his fast was inconsistent, meaning he did not fast during Ramaḍān, is it permissible to give charity
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
Did he used to pray? Did he safeguard the prayer?
Questioner:
By Allah, by Allah he used to avoid his prayers.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
Meaning he used to abandon some of his prayers?
Questioner:
Yes, he used to abandon them. He used to abandon many of them.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
And he died in that state without repenting?
Questioner:
By Allah he used to pray sometimes at home. Sometimes he would pray the Friday prayer. Sometimes, sometimes.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
No, what I mean is did he completely abandon the prayer, I don’t mean if he didn’t pray in congregation.
Questioner:
No, he never prayed with the congregation ever.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
So he didn’t used to leave the prayer.
Questioner:
He abandoned it O’ Shaykh,
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
Intentionally?
Questioner:
Out of laziness, it was out of laziness.
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
Fasting should not be performed on his behalf since good deeds will not benefit him.
Questioner:
Not even charity?
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān:
If he died in that state. Not even charity on his behalf and forgiveness is not sought for him.
