Shaykh ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAqīl (d. 1432 AH/2011 CE) ؒ
In the past, we did not know of anyone praying except twenty units of prayer in ṣalāt at-tarāwīḥ, and all of the people were upon this practice. Thereafter, some of the scholars spoke about this matter, such as ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Bāz (d. 1420 AH/1999 CE) ؒ and Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿUthaymīn (d. 1421 AH/2001 CE) ؒ, and they stated that the Sunnah is eleven units of prayer. The people then began to act upon their statements gradually, until this practice became widespread in the majority of mosques today.
