Shirk
Why Calling Upon the Dead Is Major Shirk
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Ḥudaythī explains that calling upon the dead for help is major shirk because it assigns divine power to someone other than Allah ﷻ. He clarifies that invoking anyone besides Allah ﷻ, even the Prophet ﷺ or Jibrīl, removes a person from Islam unless they repent and affirm pure monotheism.
