Sleeping Facing the Qiblah

Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz explains that sleeping facing the qiblah is not obligatory, nor strictly a Sunnah. He clarifies that a person may choose to sleep in any direction, as the matter is broad and lenient in Islām.

Questioner:

With regards to directing the bed towards the qiblah, is it obligatory or is it Sunnah?

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Azīz bin ʿAbdullah bin Bāz:

It is not obligatory. If he wills, he may sleep in direction of the qiblah, and if he wills, he may sleep in another direction. All praise is due to Allah , this matter is spacious (lenient).
