Visiting the Pyramids in Egypt

A brief clarification from Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Muḥammad al-Luḥaydān regarding visiting the pyramids in Egypt. He explains that there is no specific command or prohibition, while advising that reflecting upon past nations is acceptable, though visiting mosques and Islamic sites is more virtuous.

Questioner:

Is it permissible to visit the pyramids in Egypt?

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn Muḥammad al-Luhaydān:

There is neither prohibition nor commandment reported from Allah ﷻ or His Messenger ﷺ in visiting these places. However, if a person visits these places with the intention of reflecting on how the non-believers were destroyed before Islam, then I hope that there is no problem in this. It is better for a person to visits the masājid and to see the different places that were built for the worship of Allah ﷻ when the Muslims conquered [different parts of the world]. This is better than visiting the graves of the disbelievers.
