The Ruling on Photography and Video Recording
Shaykh ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz Ibn Bāz explains that the default ruling on photography is impermissible, based on authentic ḥadīth condemning picture makers. He notes exceptions for necessity, such as identification photos or medical imaging, and later permits recordings of lectures and seminars when they benefit the Muslim community.
